BERNARDSVILLE POLICE TO PARTICIPATE IN
CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY WEEK
Bernardsville Police Chief Kevin Valentine announced today that the Bernardsville Police
Department will be participating in Child Passenger Seat Safety Week, starting September 13,
2015 through September 19, 2015.
With changes to NJ Child Passenger Safety Seat laws that go into effect on September 1, 2015,
the Bernardsville Police Department will be offering Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspections.
Inspections will be available at several schools in Bernardsville and at road side drive in locations
during Child Passenger Seat Safety Week.
Chief Valentine reported that Patrolman Daniel Buttel and Patrolman Scott Chertoff will perform
inspections and be available to answer questions regarding the new law. According to Patrolman
Buttel “statistics show that nearly 60% of all Child Passenger Safety Seats have not been installed
correctly. Through participation in this program the Bernardsville Police Department hopes to
lower that number significantly and reduce the number of injuries to children caused by incorrect
installations”. Chief Valentine related that “the Bernardsville Police Department is proud to have
specially trained Officers that are certified Child Passenger Safety Seat Technicians that make
themselves available to the community”. These Officers provide an important lifesaving resource
to parents, family members and care givers providing child transportation in the community.”
Inspections are scheduled for parents or care givers of students attending various schools in
Bernardsville and several drive in roadside inspections are going to be made available for the
general public. Inspections will be made available on a first come, first serve basis. Beyond that,
individual inspection appointments can be made for a later date or time.
Inspection locations are as follows:
Tuesday, September 15, Bedwell School 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM (Tennis Court
Parking Lot)
Wednesday, September 16 St. Elizabeth School 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM
Friday, September 18, 2015 Palmer School 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM
